Dental Technologist

CLASSES BEGIN AUGUST 24TH

The dental technology program offers three courses with a certificate of completion for each course.

By completing all three courses, the students qualify to take RG test and become a recognized graduate through the National Board of Certification.

All students must complete:

Course 1: Introduction to Dental Technology to become eligible to enroll into

Course 2: Fixed Prosthodontic Appliances or

Course 3: Removable Prosthodontic Appliances. Upon successful completion of each course, students will earn a certificate of completion, and be eligible for national licensure exam.

The first course is “Introduction to Dental Technology.”
This course will cover Tooth Morphology, Tooth Anatomy, Full Denture Theory, Infection Control, Full Crown Theory, Oral Anatomy, and Dental Materials I and II.

The second course is “Removable Prosthodontic Appliances.”
It covers Full Denture Theory, Full Denture Lab, Dental Material III, IV, and V, Orthodontic Technology, and Partial Denture Technology.

The third course is “Fixed Prosthodontic Appliances.”
It includes Full Crown Theory, Full Crown Lab, Dental Materials III and IV, Bridge Theory, Bridge Lab, Ceramics Theory, Ceramics Lab.

Advanced Dental Technologist
Advanced classes designed to provide continuing education hours for graduate dental technologists. Classes feature guest speakers from the dental community discussing the latest technologies, trends, products and services available. Classes are the first Saturday of every month. Upon successful completion, student will earn a certificate of completion, which can be applied for continuing education credit. Prerequisites: Students must be a dental technology graduate, laboratory owner, or certified dental technician
Dental CAD/CAM
This course also introduces future CAD/CAM Technicians to digital scanning and Computer Aided Design of dental restorations which concentrates on single crowns and bridge restorations in a single quadrant. Certificate: “Digital Dental Designer” to be issued to the students. Upon successful completion, student will earn a certificate of completion.
Coronal Polishing
This course is approved for 16 Continuing Education Units. The Dental Board of California mandates the requirements for this course. Students are required to provide three patients on the second day of class for their clinical experiences. Students will be told on the first day of class when to bring their patients. Students are expected to wear OSHA approved garments, mask, gloves, and safety glasses for both days of the class.
California Radiation Safety Course
40-hour course. This course is approved for 40 Continuing Education Units. The Dental Board of California mandates the requirements for this course. Students are required to provide four dental x-ray patients. Each patient must not have had a full set of x-rays (eighteen films set) within the past five years, have a minimum of 24 teeth and be 18 years of age or older. Students will be told on the first day of class when to bring their patients. Students are expected to come to class dressed in professional attire (scrub uniforms).
Pit and Fissure Sealants
A 16 hour course approved for 16 Continuing Education Units. The Dental Board of California mandates the requirements for this course. Prerequisite: STUDENTS MUST HAVE A CORONAL POLISHING CERTIFICATE. Students are required to provide four patients and expected to wear OSHA approved garments, mask, gloves, and safety glasses for both days of the class. Students must provide two extracted teeth mounted on a patty of stone.

Patient criteria: Must be 18 years of age or older, be in good health, each patient will have a minimum of four virgin, non-restored, natural teeth, minimum of one tooth in all four quadrants. The student is responsible for providing an acceptable patient according to these criteria. If the instructor determines that the patient does not have the required criteria, the student will not be given a certificate of completion.For further information, call (805) 579-6200 ext. 1624.

PATIENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A SIGNED PRESCRIPTION FORM FROM A DENTIST OR RDH SPECIFYING VIRGIN TEETH TO BE SEALED.

First Day:
• Students must provide a valid photo ID and proof of completion of a coronal polish course
• Students are required to provide and apply sealants on two extracted teeth mounted on a patty of stone
• Students must provide one patient
Second Day:
• Students must provide last three patients
