The English as a Second Language program offers both morning and evening classes 4 days per week. Students develop skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing as they relate to civic life, health and safety, employment, U.S. culture and government, and life skills! Courses provide English as a Second Language students with opportunities to learn English, become active community members, productive parents, employees and voters.
Prelit: Emphasis is on developing students’ ability to listen and understand English.
Beginning Low: Emphasis is on developing students’ ability to listen and understand English. Reading and writing are introduced.
Beginning High: Fluency and communication are emphasized. The instructor begins to assist students in correcting their own grammatical errors.
Intermediate Low: The emphasis in this course is on fluency and communication. Students learn methods to check themselves when they use basic grammatical structures. Intermediate High: The emphasis in this course is on fluency and communication. The instructor teaches students the skills of self-monitoring in the context of situations which require the use of English for communication.
Advanced Low: The emphasis in this course is on fluency and communication. Students demonstrate the skills they have learned in self-monitoring when they use basic grammatical structures in English.
Advanced High: The emphasis in this course is on fluency and communication. Students demonstrate the skills they have learned in self-monitoring in formal and informal situations which require communication.
Multi-Level: Focus on conversation skills - ability to listen and speak English.
